East Machias is a town in Washington County, Maine, United States on the East Machias River. At the 2010 census, the town population was 1,368.[4] It is the home of Washington Academy, a private school founded in 1792.

There were 845 housing units at an average density of 24.3 per square mile (9.4/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 95.9% White, 0.8% African American, 0.3% Native American, 1.7% Asian, and 1.3% from two or more races.
