Barrington is a borough in Camden County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 6,983,[8][9][10] reflecting a decline of 101 (-1.4%) from the 7,084 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 310 (+4.6%) from the 6,774 counted in the 1990 Census.[19]

The area became known as "Barrington" in the 1880s, when William Simpson, one of the partners that developed the area, chose the name from his home in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.[20]

Barrington was incorporated as a borough on March 27, 1917, from portions of the now-defunct Centre Township, based on the results of a referendum held on April 17, 1917. Portions of the borough were taken on March 24, 1926, to form Lawnside.[21]

According to the United States Census Bureau, Barrington had a total area of 1.607 square miles (4.161 km2), all of which was land.[1][2]
